Meet the High-Waisted Corduroy Largeot by Le Laboureur — the original trousers of the French Compagnons, sewn in the maison's own workshop in Digoin, Burgundy, where it has been making workwear for over 70 years.

The very first largeot was cut in 1896 from a thickly ribbed English corduroy, and this is still the fabric of tradition. Generous through the thigh and narrowing at the ankle, its half-balloon shape was drawn for moving freely on rooftops and at the workbench. Its colour is a trade code: black is worn by the carpenters and roofers of the Compagnons du Devoir.

This is the high-waisted version "à tirants": no belt loops, but a tall waistband with two pairs of buttons at the front and one at the back for braces, a six-button fly with a steel hook, and a buckled adjuster tab at the back. Five pockets complete it — two slanted front pockets, a watch pocket, the traditional piped ruler pocket on the right leg, and a buttoned piped pocket at the back.

It is cut from a heavy 300-wale corduroy of 500 g/m², woven with a twisted warp for strength: warm, structured and built to last. A little stiff when new, it softens with wear until it moves like a second skin.

Wear it with braces and a white shirt for the full Compagnon look, or with a knit tucked in for a sharp, high-waisted winter silhouette — a piece of living French heritage from a certified Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant.
