Meet the Linen Largeot by Le Laboureur — the half-balloon work trousers of the French Compagnons, sewn by a manufacture that has been dressing craftsmen from Digoin, Burgundy, for over 70 years.

The largeot is the emblem of the Compagnons du Devoir, the guild of journeymen who still travel the Tour de France to learn their trade. Its shape was drawn for work at height and at the bench: generous through the thigh, narrowing at the ankle so nothing catches. Its colour is a trade code too — this one comes in beige, the camel tone worn by the joiners.

This is the belt-loop version: it sits low on the hip, with a 5 cm waistband and six loops for a belt, a button fly and a steel hook. Five pockets do the work — two slanted front pockets, a watch pocket, the traditional piped ruler pocket on the right leg, and a buttoned piped pocket at the back. The side seams are triple-stitched.

It is cut from a toile métis in a warm, sandy beige, a 290 g/m² weave of cotton and linen made for warm days: light and breathable, yet as hard-wearing as workwear should be. It softens with every wash.

Wear it with a white tee and clogs, or with a chore jacket for the full Compagnon silhouette — a piece of living French heritage from a certified Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant.
